- Step 1
Plan outdoor activities in the shade during mornings or wait until evening. The sun is less intense at these times, minimizing the chance for sunburn or heat exhaustion.
- Step 2
Alternate between the indoors and outdoors throughout the day. While sightseeing, try to spend most of your time in air-conditioned buildings.
- Step 3
Take advantage of the heat to go swimming or tubing. Texas is full of rivers and swimming holes that are perfect answers to the sweltering sun. Showering several times a day can also do the trick.
- Step 4
Drink plenty of water, which cools you from the inside out. Bring along extra bottles in case you run out.
- Step 5
Wear cool clothing in pale colors, which don't absorb as much sun. Make sure that your clothes are loose-fitting and lightweight. Shorts, shortsleeves, and flip-flops are always good options. Hats also help to cope with the heat.
